2023 Chess Collective Contests

As a teacher at heart, I love to organize activities to enrich topics of interest, and I'm thrilled to share an exciting opportunity for chess enthusiasts. I'm hosting a series of contests throughout the year 2023, offering amazing prizes ranging from small awards to Grand Prizes.  

There will be four contests in 2023; each contest finalists will each receive a small award and also entered into a chance to win the Grand Prize - a Mark of Westminster Rosewood Chess Board signed by Kasparov. Additionally, each participant of each contest, that also is channel subscriber, will be entered into a raffle for the Chess Collective Participant Grand Prize: an End Grain Walnut Wooden Chessboard handmade by a local NY artist. Both of these these chessboards were donated by Your Move Chess and Games (Shout-Out!). Keep an eye out for future contests and announcements by subscribing to The Chess Collective on YouTube.

For collectors, the excitement of acquiring a new item comes not only from possession but also from the research and learning that comes with it. Recently, I had the pleasure of acquiring an original German chess set dating back to the 1950s-1960s, which came with a stunning box and board. The set was produced by a company called Bohemia, and in this blog post, I invite you to join me on my journey of discovery as I explore the exquisite chess set and its origins. Furthermore, I will delve into some intriguing chess games that were played on similar Bohemia sets during the 19th Chess Olympiad in Siegen, Germany.   Recently, I had the privilege of connecting with Fabiano Ferreira, a distinguished chess collector from southern Brazil, to embark on a captivating journey through his extraordinary collection. Despite his demanding profession as an Oncologist, Fabiano generously allocated his precious time to provide insights into his cherished chess sets and unravel the fascinating stories behind them. Throughout our virtual encounter, he unveiled a series of intriguing chess sets, each holding its own unique significance.
